THE CONTEXT OF ANNE OF GREEN GABLES
$40.00
The timeless tale of the orphaned Anne of Green Gables, and her experiences and exploits growing up on Prince Edward Island, off Canada's Atlantic coast, has captured the imagination of a multitude of readers over the century since the first book in the series was published in 1908. The author, Lucy Maud Montgomery, was born and raised on PEI and through her novels shares her love for this beautiful part of Canada. The history of PEI is linked with the other Maritime Provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and nearby Newfoundland. British and French colonial aspirations shaped the region, and Scottish settlers contributed to the cultural context. This series will explore the history of this Canadian province, link to the books and films of Anne of Green Gables (including the latest version currently screening in Christchurch, and gauge interest in a history study tour to the Maritime Provinces and St Lawrence region.
