The Achievements of Julius Vogel
$15.00
Railways, roads, immigration and women's suffrage: just some of the enterprises summoned up by the name of Julius Vogel, Premier of New Zealand in the 1870s. But Vogel's skills and imagination also included the founding of the Otago Daily Times and the writing of a futuristic novel: Anno Domini 2000. These three lectures will explore the life and contribution of this colourful 19th-century character, highlighting the schemes of the 'Vogel Era', which shaped New Zealand for the next hundred years and beyond, and also his remarkable vision of women's global role at the start of the 21st century.
