AKAROA HISTORY BUS TOUR Sunday 25 September. The 2016 history bus trip is offered in conjunction with the Canterbury History Foundation, and this year we are heading to Akaroa. The plan is to travel via Governor's Bay and Gebbie's Pass and on via Little River so we will explore some more Canterbury history en route, and return late afternoon by the main road.
In Akaroa we will meet Daniel Smith from the Museum who will be our local host and guide. Dan is the Canterbury History Foundation's Community Historian for 2016.
After lunch we will visit St Luke's Church in Little Akaloa which has bicultural decor designed by local farmer, artist and craftsman John Henry Menzies.
As the road to Little Akaloa is narrow, we are constrained to a 35-seater bus, and consequently places are more limited than in previous years when we visited Kaikoura and Hororata.
If you are keen to join us for this exploration of History in Our Countryside, then please enrol as soon as possible to ensure a place.
